I said: I heard that Ali, the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him, had a ring with a turquoise stone inscribed with “Allah is the King.” He said: Do you recognize it? I said: No. He said: This is a stone that Gabriel, peace be upon him, gifted to the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and his family and grant them peace, and the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and his family and grant them peace, gifted it to the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him.
Do you know its name? I said: Turquoise. He said: This is its Persian name. What is its Arabic name? I said: I do not know. He said: Its name is Al-Zafar (Victory). It was narrated from Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) that he said: The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: God Almighty said: “I am ashamed to turn away empty-handed a servant who raises his hand while wearing a ring with a turquoise stone.” (Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 93, p. 353). Jabir ibn Hayyan called it the “Stone of Victory,” the “Stone of the Eye,” and the “Stone of Prestige.” (Al-Jamahir fi Ma’rifat al-Jawahir, al-Biruni, p. 100).
